Responsibilities:
BASIC FUNCTION

To establish, develops, manage and continuously improve the maintenance of his field of work in a systematic and methodical way.
Directs and supervises the installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and modification activities carried out on a wide range of mechanical stationary and rotating equipment in the plant, including turbo machinery, gas and steam turbines, compressors, furnaces, heat exchangers, diesel generators, extruders, etc. Provides technical advice and guidance on all related maintenance works. Participates in the planning and implementation of all systems modifications, expansion and installations.

WORK PERFORMED

  • Directs and supervises the activities of assigned personnel in the unit. Performs supervisory functions at the level established by Management for the position.
  • Develops, improve and assist in the preparation of predictive, preventive, modification and major shutdown maintenance programs for mechanical equipment in the plant, using equipment past performance and manufacturers’ data and supervises the execution of such programs. Prepares detailed equipment checklists for routine maintenance and the estimation of detailed manpower and skill requirements. Follows up on major maintenance work to keep abreast of conditions and to advise on spare part replacement, modifications or refurbishment. Reviews shutdown job lists and contract scopes. Participates in testing and start-up of equipment upon completion of work. Carries out more complex fault finding, diagnosis and repair of equipment.
  • Provides guidance and advice on actions to be taken on chronic problems and reviews requirement for major repair and spares replacements. Carries out troubleshooting of chronic failures and gives repair and test procedures. Ensures that all mechanical maintenance services are provided safely and efficiently in accordance with internationally recognized engineering standard.
    Coordinates the activities of contracted craftsmen in the plant with operations personnel and arrange shutdowns and necessary “permits to work”. Deals with emergency requirements immediately, allocating craftsmen, providing technical advice and checking work at various stages. Provides regular feedback to Operations Department and Planning Section on status of work undertaken. Liaises with other maintenance disciplines and the workshop to coordinate multi-discipline work or machine shop requirements.
  • Provides engineering assistance to the Development Engineering Section in the Mechanical design and specification of modifications or new equipment installations and projects. Technically reviews bids for the supply of new equipment. Liaises with manufacturers’ representatives as required in the installation, commissioning and post commissioning periods, to discuss and rectify any equipment deficiency. Liaises with Inspection Section to arrange for and follows up on physical testing and inspection of modifications and/or new installations.
    Reviews annual requirements for mechanical materials, spare parts and equipment, advises on stock levels and material descriptions, and provides suggestions for alternatives or interchangeability of parts with other equipment in different Company locations and inspection of expensive/critical items. Prepares provisional and final acceptance certificates.
  • Follows up on the work of maintenance contractors and provides field support over work execution. Includes reviewing contractors’ regular reports, assessing their performance and providing advice as necessary. Clears contractors’ invoices for payment.
  • Assists Supervisor in the preparation of capital and operating budgets for the Section by identifying specific items to be included in budget submission. Technically evaluates bids related to direct capital and operating budget purchase requisitions.
  • Assists in preparing training programmes for National employees undergoing on-the-job training by identifying specific training needs. Provides essential training and guidance to trainees, developees and other subordinates with a clear objective of career development.
  • Performs other similar or related duties, as assigned. Includes ensuring observance of safety and fire rules and regulations by subordinates, preparing activity reports, attending meetings, etc. Recommends new technology and techniques to improve existing systems.
  • To be a key player in the “Top 10” cost items and initiate the necessary actions and improvements to reduce cost in the most efficient way.
  • Follow up key performance parameter in the maintenance organization and propose improvement programs if applicable.
    Issue root cause failure reports and take the lead in upset reduction teams.
  • Developing multi skill in the organization where it is cost efficient, safely and applicable.

Start-up Preparation
Prepare maintenance technical manuals, procedures to start-up the plant in a safe and cost efficient way.
Prepare on call programs and participate in such program to support the production organization for possible serious failure during off-hours.

WORK CONTACTS

  • Daily contacts with Technical Services, Maintenance, Operations and Safety & Fire personnel up to Section Head level, to determine priorities, discuss problems and coordinate work. Occasional contacts with equal level personnel in other plants and ADNOC, Borealis, Group Companies for exchanging information and coordinating inter-related activities.

INDEPENDENCE OF OPERATION

Reports to Head, Mechanical Maintenance Section. Carries out work assignments in accordance with established policies and professional engineering standards. Work is subject to review and directions. Work accomplishments are subject to review and directions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Supervises a group of personnel depending on assigned area.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

50% of the work time is spent in the plant, standing, walking and climbing while inspecting equipment or monitoring work activities.
50% of the work time is spent in exposing to process and equipment conditions and prevailing climate.

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 6 years’ experience in the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of major rotating and mechanical equipment in an oil/gas/petrochemical or Power Plants or Crackers, PE Plants.
  • Good knowledge of English.
